In Florence, the Santo Spirito district has always had a definite flair for artisanry: here, there have been engravers’, goldsmiths’ and shoemakers’ workshops ever since the Renaissance.

And in 1941, Firmino Savio, an artisan from the Friuli region, founded his firm here, too: it is still extraordinary today, in its new headquarters in Scandicci, where it produces custom-made furniture and exports Italian craftsmanship throughout the world, especially to Russia and China.

Values like know-how, artisanry, intuition and designing skills are fundamental for us: they exist out of time; they are renewed again and again” states Cosimo Savio, grandson of the founder.
My father was one of the first craftsmen in Florence to understand that the noble heritage of the past must be revisited in a contemporary key: his vision was rather significant in the world of so-called figurative furniture. Our aim always is, in fact, to combine the figurative genes of our style with stimuli that arrive from a proper interpretation of the spirit of the times”...
The designers who work for Savio Firmino are always asked to tune in to this wavelength, working in close contact both with clients and with artisans.

The passion, artisanry and research of Savio Firmino can be seen in each and every one of their ideas, and each and every piece they sign contributes to taking the client where he should be. At home.

The so-called classical style in furniture is actually difficult to achieve: many designers do not have the slightest idea as to how to put together a historical and artistic line with contemporary vision. They discover it while working”...

Wood is, of course, the preferred material: but, as Cosimo recalls, “contemporary living needs now ask questions about many other elements. Wood remains an essential element, but we are extremely open; our designers are between 20 and 35, and they are curious, careful and ready to develop new ideas with new products. Obviously, for the firm’s level, we always try to use products of value, also as far as the material is concerned, working to a large extent with natural materials”...

A room furnished by Savio Firmino has character, which can be recognized immediately: the warm honey and ivory colours, the materials chosen, the soft curved lines, as well as attention to technology: Savio Firmino has recently presented his Home Theatre. And of course, respect for the environment: “above all, since we are also putting out a line of furniture for children’s rooms”, Cosimo says. “The firm is equipped with solar energy panels, and we are developing a series of certification to give the product dignity that goes beyond aesthetics”...

Reconciling craftsmanship, Italian style and the international dimension is not a simple task: “Let’s say that we’re like a sponge”, Cosimo jokes: “we do a job that is difficult, but we have the opportunity to develop projects that unite technology, Italian taste, international demand and new materials. Thus, the artisan’s vision is continually stimulated to go one step further”..

The Russian market is very important for Savio Firmino, but this does not mean that they merely export their precious pieces and install them in their clients’ homes: from almost daily reports with Russia, new ideas and suggestions arrive. Like the Nalichnik, a type of window inspired by nineteenth centuries dachas: “when my father first saw them, he was enchanted. For us, light has an extraordinary importance, and we decided to create our version – or better, our three versions – of this type of window”...
