Homo Faber: The Journey of Life ended on 30 September. The third edition of this biennial exhibition of contemporary metiers d’arts quickly established itself as a must-attend experience for craftsmanship enthusiasts worldwide, welcoming more than 50,000 visitors from all over the globe, including artisans, designers, experts, gallery owners and enthusiasts. A project of the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship in partnership with Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte and Fondazione Giorgio Cini, which hosted the Venetian event.

With more than 1,000 objects made by over 400 craftspeople from approximately 70 countries around the world, Homo Faber 2024 explored the essential role of handmade objects in our daily lives. ‘For one month, Homo Faber 2024 became the epicentre of the international craft community: a place where artisans and designers from different countries could meet and share their work. As always, we would like to express our thanks to all the artisans, partners, sponsors, experts and organisations that helped us realise Homo Faber 2024,' says Alberto Cavalli, executive director of Michelangelo Foundation and general director of Fondazione Cologni. One of the most popular exhibition spaces was ‘Dreams’, set up in the former Gandini pool: a selection of highly creative handcrafted masks from all over the world were displayed around the edges of the pool, where mannequins wearing Alaïa haute couture dresses were suspended over the water.

Visitors and enthusiasts also flocked to discover the secrets of the craft in the ateliers in Venice, Murano and Burano that took part in the Homo Faber in Città programme, organised by the Cologni Foundation and supported by Cartier. The 70 craftsmen involved were enthusiastic in welcoming the hundreds of visitors to their workshops, all curious to discover ‘the arcane craftsman’... the magic formula for the happiness of making.
