There was great public participation for Venice Fashion Week, an event of culture and fashion created in 2013 by Venezia da Vivere, thanks to the passionate commitment of Laura Scarpa and Lorenzo Cinotti, under the patronage of Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte. From 21 to 27 October 2024 Venice hosted and narrated a fashion that comes from the land and respects the planet, through a packed calendar of events that connected sustainability, craftsmanship and innovation. On this occasion, Sandro Zara, master tabard craftsman, received The Blue Artisan award, a recognition that celebrates a special talent and the transmission of his know-how to new generations.

In the historically charged spaces of the Hotel Saturnia & International in Calle Larga XXII Marzo, an audience of experts and enthusiasts attended the talk dedicated to the role of craftsmanship in fashion for ‘Sustainable Fashion Day’. On this occasion, the talent of master Zara and the history of the tabarro, an iconic sartorial garment, was celebrated. The prize is a Murano glass sculpture created by Pierpaolo Seguso of Seguso Vetri d'Arte.

A Venetian master artisan-entrepreneur, Sandro Zara has been producing tabarri since 1974 and celebrates 50 years in business in 2024. His Tabarrificio Veneto, the first in Italy, is a space of memory where past and future coexist. The secrets of garment making, the fruit of years of study and research, and a considerable archive of historical garments, worthy of a museum, from Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna are kept here. In this forge, tabarri are designed, cut and sewn one by one by skilled artisans and tailors of long and proven experience. A special birthday, an evocative tribute to savoir-faire!
