The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Biella, in collaboration with the Associazione Fatti ad Arte, is promoting the ‘Maestro di Mestiere’ Prize. The prize is intended as a contribution of support for the recovery of the many workshops in the Biella area that bear witness to the value of craftsmanship which Biella represents as a member for the Crafts and Folk Arts of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. But the sector of the handicrafts is a fragile one: it faces many difficulties, stemming primarily from the crushing logic of the global market, from a tax burden that is too heavy for small-scale enterprises and from the lack of generational handover. Thus the prize sets out to provide concrete support aimed at boosting its activity. Candidates will be asked to present a project, which will have to follow the guidelines indicated in the call. The prize will be split into two sections: one of the value of € 5000 for artisans with at least 5 years of experience and one of the value of € 3000 for young artisans (under 30) who have been working for a minimum of a year.
