‘As a little girl I was silent as a fish and wished to be like them, living in wordless peace in the tranquil and limpid waters of a river or a pond. Now that I’ve grown up and become a Master of Paper, and have been invited to put on a new exhibition at Origami Do, which is reflected in the waters of our Naviglio, that image from long ago came to mind again and I set out to make fish. […] Chic fish, snobbish fish, pop fish, hippie fish, good fish, fish that pretend to be bad or really nasty, fish for all tastes!’ The words of Caterina Crepax, well-known paper artist and winner of the 2018 MAM-Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere award in the paper category, help us to understand the exhibition that opened on 21 April last at the Origami Do Gallery in Milan. For as long as there’ll be fish the canal towpath known as the Alzaia del Naviglio Grande will be decorated with the imaginative and poetic creations of a craftswoman with skilled hands.
