From 13th May to 9th July 2023 the MIDeC, Museo Internazionale del Design Ceramico, in collaboration with Triennale Milano, presents "La SCI Società Ceramica Italiana alla 1ª Mostra biennale delle arti decorative internazionali di Monza, Maggio 1923".

A celebration for an anniversary: at the prestigious venue in Laveno Mombello (Varese) the inauguration on 13th May at 11.30 am is open to the public. On the centenary of the 1st Biennial Exhibition of International Decorative Arts, the MIDeC recalls and re-enacts the presence of SCI Società Ceramica Italiana in Monza. A century ago, the exhibition, which was decisive for the birth of Italian design, opened in the magnificent Villa Reale in Monza designed by Piermarini, and every two years its aim was to show the general public the decorative arts in the broadest sense, to stimulate involvement and a joint collaboration between industries, artists and artisans. Many of SCI's products are now the property of the MIDeC, some already in the exhibition, many in the Museum's storerooms, others lent by collectors: they will all be on display in the exhibition curated by Anty Pansera and Giacinta Cavagna, with a special staging designed by set designer Ivo Tomasi, in the ground floor rooms.
The exhibition enjoys important patronages such as those of the City of Milan, the City of Monza, and the Società Umanitaria to bear witness to the link between the three institutions and the Monza Biennial, under the banner of the CAMNU Consortium (Consorzio Autonomo Milano Monza Umanitaria), the Monza Park and Villa Reale Consortium, AiCC Associazione Italiana Città della Ceramica and the Fondazione Cologni, for over twenty-five years promoter of cultural, scientific and popular initiatives for the protection and dissemination of métiers d’art.
