"Ara Starck at Made in Cloister", open to the public until 20 January 2024, is the first exhibition of the Parisian artist and storyteller Ara Starck in Naples, at the 16th-century cloister of the Church of Santa Caterina a Formiello where the Made in Cloister Foundation, an important centre for contemporary art, crafts and design in the heart of the Neapolitan city, is located. The exhibition unfolds through a large stained-glass window in the centre of the cloister of St Catherine's, which transforms and reveals as many shades of colour as surreal narratives. Nine paintings, positioned throughout the cloister, invite the viewer on a theatrical and poetic walk. For this adventure, the French artist worked closely with set designer Paolo Gambardella, who coordinated the Neapolitan glassmakers and wood master artisans, continuing the Made in Cloister tradition of supporting local artisan through dialogue with international art. «Working with Neapolitan master artisans was a key element in the creation of the exhibition, with the profound desire to welcome the viewer on the journey we took with these master glassmakers and carpenters,» explains Ara Starck. The initiative is sponsored by the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte, which, together with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, financed the workshops on ‘cathedral glass’.
