Great success for the two goldsmith workshops of the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, organised in collaboration with Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte, on Saturday 23 November, on the occasion of the event ‘Beyond the portrait. Il restauro visibile della Dama’ (until 31 January 2025): a unique opportunity to take a close look at the restoration of Piero del Pollaiolo's Ritratto di giovane donna, one of the collection's best-loved masterpieces.

These two workshops in hand modelling soft wax to create silver jewellery, organised by the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana and made possible thanks to the precious collaboration of Fondazione Cologni, which has supported the Poldi Pezzoli Museum for years, were immediately sold out. The participants, guided by the two Masters Matteo Murelli and Erica Lodato, made a brooch and a pendant inspired by an ornamental motif of the Dama del Pollaiolo, following a drawing provided by the teachers. Modelling was done using the heat of the hands and ad hoc tools such as scalpels for cutting. The silver casting will be performed by an external workshop in these days and the pieces will be ready for collection at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum.

Founded in 1995 by Luca Solari, directed in collaboration with his brother Guido, the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana is today one of the best schools of goldsmithing in Italy and in the world, with three different locations in the beating heart of Milan.
