The exhibition "Mani Maestre" in Gubbio, in the Sala dell'Arengo of the Palazzo dei Consoli, from June 29 to August 25, 2024, was created as a tribute to the presence of artisans in our experience, to their representing our identity. The hands, through which they shape matter, are the door to enter their workshops and their hearts. Under the patronage of Fondazione Cologni, the exhibition also hosts a cast of the hands of Cav. Franco Cologni, a longtime supporter of craftsmanship of excellence.
From many voices the need is raised to enhance Italian excellence, dedication, passion, and the ability to create extraordinary works: the Mani Maestre, in this sense, represent a presidium for those excellences that remain such by the sole will of the individual interpreters, capable of overcoming unspeakable difficulties in order to continue to guard this know-how. The exhibition is curated by L'Archivio delle Mani Maestre and Gypsea, a 'rare and precious' Gubbio atelier of plaster and stucco art, led by artisan Patrizia Ramacci. The project aims to create the environment in which to feel part of the same story through the identity totem of artisans: hands. It is the time for open artisan communities that know how to enhance the talents of each one, because the master of art is the one who guards and nurtures the history of beauty and care for things.
The opening on June 29, at the Sala Trecentesca of the Municipal residence, is an invitation extended to the whole community: speakers on the theme of “The Happiness of Making” will be Don Gianni Giacomelli, former Prior of the Fonte Avellana Monastery, and Stefano Micelli, Professor of Economics and Business Management at Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
