On Friday 22th December 2023, in Milan, on the behalf of the Presidency of the Italian Republic and the Ceremonial Office, Senator Mariapia Garavaglia awarded Alberto Cavalli, General Director of the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte, with the title and insignia of “Commendatore dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana”. The appointment of Alberto Cavalli comes to underscore the value of the work that the Fondazione Cologni, created by “Cavaliere di Gran Croce” Franco Cologni in 1995, has been carrying out with passion and a spirit of true patronage for nearly 30 years to promote high Italian craftsmanship, support master artisans and young apprentices, contribute to the culture of beauty and well-made products, and uphold the values of craftsmanship on which the excellence of Made in Italy is based. «Politics is service, listening, planning: the “Ordine al Merito” values those who pursue these actions in civil, cultural and professional life. Cavalier Cologni's example remains a landmark of extraordinary importance in the world of Italian high craftsmanship», Mariapia Garavaglia says. «This distinction is an extraordinary honor for me», Alberto Cavalli commented: «This is a tangible sign of how the Presidency of the Republic, and the institutions of our Country, are sensitive to the importance of the métiers d’art in Italy: linking the ethical values of artisan work to the culture of design, through original and concrete initiatives, means giving both masters and young people real opportunities to affirm their talents, and contribute to Italy's prestige»
