10th July 2013 - 16th February 2014Victoria & Albert Museum, London
From July 10th, the Victoria & Albert Museum displays the creative explosion of London fashion in the 1980s. Through more than 85 outfits, the exhibition “Club to Catwalk. London Fashion in the 1980s” showcases the new looks by the most experimental young designers of the decade, including Betty Jackson, Katharine Hamnett, Wendy Dagworthy and John Galliano.
The ’80s, in fact, saw the explosion of the London club scene. The emerging theatricality in British fashion derived from club scene influenced a new generation of designers, reinforcing the creative link between music, club and catwalk. This symbiotic relationship remained the defining characteristic of 1980s style.
