The nominations for the award instituted by Starhotels, in collaboration with Fondazione Cologni, OMA and Gruppo Editoriale, have reached a successful conclusion.

A great accomplishment for this first staging of the competition, turning on the evocative theme ‘A Source of Light’: 

-131 nominations received;

-15 regions of origin;

-14 sectors of activity represented: glass, ceramics, paper, metals, precious metals, decoration, mosaic, semiprecious stones, scagliola, wood, tailoring and dressmaking, upholstery, waxwork and leatherworking;

- age range of the artisans nominated from 22 to 86.

Many the historic workshops of note that have entered; the works submitted, whether traditional or contemporary, are of the highest quality.

Techniques utilized include mosaic, scagliola, glassblowing, glass fusing, bucchero, embroidery, marquetry and lost-wax casting, as well as processes carried out with the most up-to-date technology. Lamps, glassware, mirrors, chandeliers, candlesticks, light installations and more; along with a number of works that have proposed a symbolic rather than literal interpretation of the theme. An authentic map of Italian know-how that represents the country in all the more significant a manner at this time of great crisis and difficulty. Now the award’s prestigious jury starts its work, and will decide on the 10 finalists and the winner in the month of September 2020.
