The Cologni Foundation for the Métiers d’Art, the Silk Museum in Como and Carthusia Edizioni present the fourth title in the “Storietalentuose” series.

The “Storietalentuose” series was developed by the Cologni Foundation for the Métiers d’Art to introduce young people to the beauty of the artistic crafts that have made Italian craftsmanship famous in the world, and encourage them to embrace a career in this field.

“The secret of silk” is dedicated to the craft of sericulture and silk weaving, with special emphasis on the outstanding tradition of Como’s silk industry – to this day one of the major in the world – which represents the strong identity of the town and its culture.

Lodovica Cima, a well-known author of children’s books, wrote the original and fascinating story that develops in the ancient, fascinating tradition of textile manufacturing and introduces young readers to the most precious of yarns: silk. Colourful artwork by renowned illustrator Anna Forlati enriches and gives shape to the narrative, creating a timeless atmosphere.

“The secret of silk” tells the story of two children, Ettore and his sister Annina, who work respectively as a weaver and as a drafter in a silk mill. One day, Annina discovers that Ettore has woven a secret message into the design of a silk shawl. It is a love message for Rosa, as sparkling as her golden plait. The secret will be uncovered by a kind-hearted Marchioness, and the precious fabric will change the lives of the young protagonists.
