The Cologni Foundation’s endowed chair in the Faculty of Design at Milan Polytechnic, dedicated to “Italian beauty” (“La Bellezza italiana”), was renewed for the academic year 2016/2017. Italian beauty is investigated in its being a competitive advantage and fundamental component of creativity in the world of luxury and excellence. Beauty becomes the expression of a talent that characterises Italian manufacturing and that cannot exist without the artistic crafts.

Understanding the “genetic code” of this beauty is integral to identifying an endless source of inspiration in Italy’s material and immaterial cultural heritage, not only from a creative perspective but also from a professional one. The lecturer is Alberto Cavalli, Director of the Cologni Foundation. The endowed chair is under the aegis of the Municipality of Milan, and the lessons take place not only in the Bovisa Campus of the Polytechnic, but also in several special location of the city of Milan: from GAM, the Modern Art Gallery, to the Theatre of Palazzo Visconti; from the Poldi Pezzoli and Bagatti Valsecchi museums to the marionette theatre of the Compagnia Marionettistica Carlo Colla & Figli.
